Why your choice of band could make or break your wedding

Your wedding is supposed to be the happiest day of your life. Not only do you want all of your guests to enjoy themselves, but you get to start married life in the very best way possible. Planning ahead is the best way to make this happen.

They say that music makes the world go around, and while that may not be true in terms of actual physics, music absolutely can play a major role when it comes to ensuring that you have a night to remember.

Like every decision you make for your wedding day, it makes sense to properly plan and consider all of the options available to you. In fact, your choice of song for the first dance can even predict how successful your marriage will be, according to one study. The key tip is to not pick Little Things by One Direction, as 75% of those surveyed who ended up separating.

So, with that in mind, let’s take a detailed look at why you need to pick a wedding band that works for you, and how you can achieve that goal.

1. You need music that summarises you as a couple and entertains the crowd

It is important to always remember that, while your wedding is for you and your partner, you want everyone that turns up to have the best time possible. Providing an atmosphere that makes people consider the idea of leaving early is by no means ideal.

When you are hiring a band, you have to make a decision that will ensure everyone is content, which means finding an act that can perform various styles, is capable of taking requests and is understanding when it comes to fully acknowledging your bespoke needs and requirements.

2. You need to consider the date and you must plan ahead

The most popular wedding bands tend to get booked up way in advance, so don’t be left scrabbling around for music because you have refrained from getting everything planned well ahead of time. You usually stand the best chance of finding the band of your dreams by having a winter wedding, as there will be less demand. You can also try having your wedding in the middle of the week rather than the weekend, for the same reason. If you live in a busy area, such as London, then make sure you hire in advance – it’s absolutely crucial.

3. You need to ensure the band has all of the necessary equipment

The last thing you want is to hire the wedding band of your dreams and then find out that they are unable to perform because the venue doesn’t have the equipment necessary. It is recommended that you hire a band with the capacity of bringing all of the kit – including wires, equipment, speakers and instruments – that will be needed on the day (and night), and you should certainly ensure you make such arrangements clear with the band prior to the wedding day.

4. You need to have the day’s schedule nailed down

Do you know exactly when you want the entertainment to begin and end? Do you want music played throughout the ceremony, reception and dinner? Is there a specific time when you’d like them to play a particular song, perhaps for the first dance? By having a robust idea of the schedule, you’ll be able to ensure that the band is best placed to perform in the way that you desire.
